EDITOR’S WELCOME NOTE
Welcome to our 2020 fall issue of the YogaSetu Newsletter!
Rome was not built in a day, and neither was your body, nor any disease. Is the body slowly preparing for a disease and we are overlooking the sublime symptoms? Conventional medical tools such as blood tests and X-rays are highly valuable for diagnosing a disease at an early stage. However, they can detect a disease only after it has become physically manifest – for example, in the form of an elevated blood sugar.
Ayurveda aims to detect disease before it becomes clinically manifest, when it is easier to reverse. Read the wonderful article we’ve referenced in this issue on the six stages of the development of disease by Maharishi Ayurvedic Products International.
“Fifteen years back I was in a state of constant anxiety and always waiting for the next disaster that would ruin my life. Through meditation I have been able to salvage my life to the extent that my life has become meaningful and purposeful.” This was the firsthand experience of Dr. Sobhan, MD, a General Surgeon and teacher of meditation, who provides simple answers to questions about meditation during a candid interview with me. Enjoy Dr. Sobhan’s recorded guided meditation at the bottom of the front page of our website: www.yogasetu.org .
How did yoga help one of our fellow practitioners to slowly improve her chest pressure and emotional well-being? Read in our Letters from our Readers section about her transformative experience with breath work (pranayama) and asana practice.
What does it take to be 100? “What to Eat to Live to 100,” by Andrew Merle, summarizes the eating and living habits of the world’s longest-lived people as described in Dan Buettner’s study on “The Blue Zones.” As C. S. Lewis said, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” Start today!
Additionally, the current issue of the newsletter includes resources for you to attend free online weekly yoga sessions, quotable quotes, and yoga events in the region, as well as around the world.
Eat smart, move more, breathe deep, sleep well, relax, meditate, stay healthy, and stay safe!
