Welcome – Vol. 7, No. 1 (Mar. 2019)

Greetings!

Turning to a focus on Ayurveda, this issue features several items on aspects of the ancient wisdom, including an article by Nandita Gopalan, a Mumbai (India) based yoga therapist. Nandita beautifully expresses the different ways to get a respite from the hectic outside world, within the stillness of our own being.

Another interesting article reveals how Ayurveda changed the life of Cornell- and Harvard-trained doctor Bhaswati Bhattacharya, MD. In this interview and the referenced podcast, Dr. Bhattacharya explains how, in contrast with modern-day medical practice, “Ayurveda works to heal the subtle parts of our Being as well as the material chemical structures of our body-sense-brain Being” and therefore has a distinct role to play in mindset and healing.

Last, but not least, we see that touch is more than skin deep! Just under the skin, there are pressure receptors that are referred to in Ayurveda as Marma Points. These are vital energy points that connect to the nerve endings associated with different organs through-out the body. This issue of the Yoga Setu Newsletter (YSN) features a demonstration video in which the internationally renowned Ayurveda practitioner Dr. Vasant Lad presents a marma session for neuro-chemical and hormonal health.

Every edition of the newsletter features a profound, insightful quote from the ancient Indian scriptures related to yoga, so be sure to read that as well. And, as always, our Calendar provides you with information about the upcoming yoga events, both local and global, that we think will interest you. Prominent among those is the International Day of Yoga on Friday, June 21, 2019 — we are already gearing up for that!
