Welcome to the Spring 2017 Issue of YogaSetu Newsletter (YSN)!
Spring evokes images of sunshine, flowers, a gentle breeze, and greenery. However, the flowers bring pollen allergies, runny noses, nasal congestion, stuffiness, coughing, sneezing, and itchy eyes! Sorry to be the Grinch, but allergy season is in full swing. Don’t miss the editor’s corner on the use of a Neti-pot and its benefits for allergies.
We are excited to bring you some highly insightful articles in this YSN issue. “You’re not defined by your biology; you’re defined by your lifestyle,” boldly and authoritatively says Dr. Amrita Sandra McLanahan, M.D., in a captivating interview with the editor. For twenty years, Dr. Amrita served as the director of Stress Management for Dr. Dean Ornish’s research on using yoga and lifestyle changes to reverse heart disease and cancer. She is also a co-author of the book, Surgery and Its Alternatives, and now practices Integrative Medicine in Yogaville, Virginia.
Did you know that people with mild cognitive impairment are two-and-a-half times more likely to develop dementia, including Alzheimer’s Disease, as they get older? Read Grace Bullock’s article on “How to Stave Off Age-Related Cognitive Decline Using Yoga.” Also see the testimonial from a yoga practitioner about how yoga can help manage fibromyalgia, mood, and stress; and our regular feature “Quotes for Inspiration” brings an ancient verse from Bhagvad Gita that is as relevant now as it was thousands of years ago.
As always, we welcome your comments, thoughts, questions, and opinions.
